30 Days – 30 Cruise Lines: Day 21, Princess Cruises

PrincessRKDay 21: Princess Cruises

The love boat…exciting and new…come aboard, we’re expecting you…

Sorry, had to do it. After all, the infamous show The Love Boat was filmed on an actual Princess Cruises ship. Princess is a very well known line and that show probably had something to do with it. Unfortunately, if you want to sail on that exact ship, Pacific Princess, it has since been decommissioned and dismantled (as of July 2013).

Regal Princess

So who is Princess Cruises today?  One would classify Princess as a premier cruise line.  It’s a relaxed environment.  You never feel hurried and you won’t find many small children on a Princess ship.  As their current marketing campaign says, when you go on a Princess ship, you “Come Back New.”  We agree.  In general, the decor is  contemporary and elegant, nothing over the top or too showy. They best describe their ships as a small ship feel, but on a large ship. They take great lengths to ensure their staff is well-trained in accommodating guests and providing excellent service.

Princess ships can be found all around the world. They offer more than 150 different itineraries and sail to six continents.  They are definitely known as a leader in the Alaska cruise market. They even have a special tours division to supports guests looking to add a land tour with their Alaskan cruise.

Sea Walk

Princess has recently introduced two new ships as well to the market, Royal Princess and Regal Princess.  This brings the total number of ships in their fleet to 17.  Most of which are large ships and two that are smaller ships.  The release of Royal Princess launched the next generation of Princess ships. We sailed aboard her last October. Some of the highlights included the top-deck glass-bottomed walkway that extended over the side of the ship (super cool). We also liked the set up of the bar on the direct opposite side that had a similar feature. The poolside cabanas was a nice touch and we can’t forget the Sanctuary which was the most wonderful afternoon spent on that ship. Total relaxation with after tea and sandwiches. yummmm. Be sure to reserve this as soon as you get on the ship, it fills up quickly.
