We came across this great article in the New York Times today about why a vacation is not a luxury. Have you seen it? (READ HERE). Here are the big takeaways that only validate the importance of taking a vacation — and even more so why taking a cruise is a GREAT vacation.
- Make sure when you vacation, you take a REAL BREAK. If you go on vacation but still find yourself checking your email, calling the office for “just a few minutes to check in” or not letting your clients and co-workers know you are on vacation are all indicators you are not taking a break. When you go on a cruise, you will be positioning yourself to be out of touch and people will understand and respect your not be on-demand reachable.
- Your life is overwhelming — your brain needs a break. We couldn’t agree more. There is a reason people get hooked to cruising. When they get home they realize they truly were able to “break away” and focus on just having a good time. That is your focus when on a cruise. You don’t see a lot of people sitting in the hotel lobby working on their computers. The internet is painfully slow so why bother.
- Increased creativity. By stepping away and taking that vacation, your brain does the same. Richard Branson has said “As an entrepreneur or business leader, if you didn’t come back from your vacation with some ideas about how to shake things up, it’s time to consider making some changes.” And he definitely is referring to the need to take a real vacation.
Yep, a vacation is no longer a luxury, today it is a necessity. And a vacation on a cruise is the BEST way to take the first step to the right way to get away.
